On 31 August, a representative of the Russian Embassy was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and was handed in a note of protest over the statements announced by the chargé d’affaires ad interim of the Russian Embassy in Lithuania Sergey Ryabokon that undermined the events of 13 January 1991 and cynically distorted historical facts.

Lithuania condemns Russia’s war against Ukraine and continues to advocate for the expansion of a policy of sanctions against Russia. The European Union and other like-minded countries must continue to step up their severe sanctions against Russia until the country stops its aggression against Ukraine and withdraws its troops from occupied territories.

Today, on 21 April, the Acting Head of the Embassy of Lithuania in Moscow Virginija Umbrasienė was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and informed about Russia’s decision to withdraw its consent to the functioning of the Consulate General of Lithuania in St. Petersburg. All employees of the Consulate General and their family members must leave Russia's territory within 15 days.
