Diplomatic relations with Czechoslovakia were re-established on 9 September 1991.

Lithuania recognized Slovakia after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia on 5 January 1993.

On 6 January 1993, diplomatic relations with the Slovak Republic were established.

From 1992 to 1994, Chargé d’Affaires Edvardas Borisovas served as the first Lithuanian representative to Slovakia after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations (resided in the Czech Republic).

From 1992 to 1994, Juraj Nemeš served as the first Ambassador of Czechoslovakia to Lithuania after the re-establishment of diplomatic relations.
